Luz Melo
PhD Research Intern
Luz Melo is a PhD candidate at UVA’s School of Data Science and an intern at the National Security Data and Policy Institute. Prior to joining NSDPI, she was selected as a Community Data Fellow through the University of Virginia’s Equity Center, as part of the Equitable Analysis Initiative. Her research interests involve responsible AI, algorithmic fairness, and data governance, with a focus on misinformation detection and the translation of technical research into strategic policy guidance for national security applications.
She received a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
